Jeez, this is so old it came out before Team Fortress 2! I guarantee you Scout or Heavy would've been in this had it come out 3-ish years later.

To this day I haven't seen any other Mario parodies that are specifically based on the Mario Bros arcade game, still good stuff after almost 2 decades.
This was technically the first Newgrounds thing I ever watched when I was 3, 19 years really flies by doesn't it?
I haven't played much of the original version so what I'm playing right now is all new to me. I can't really tell what's different this time, graphics look the same, controls feel the same, everything from what I played in the original is the same here.
One major criticism I have? I absurdly struggled with the second boss. At first I had thought I had to throw the knives in it's mouth when it opened, then I realized that I probably had to hit it from behind, which I was right, then for awhile I didn't realize I had to time when I moved so I had a chance of getting behind it in time to hit it. But the thing I struggled the most with? When you get hit, the enemies will respawn, this was absurdly difficult on the 4th and last hit before it would die. This wouldn't be so hard, if you could jump down from the platforms, like if you held the down button when you pressed jump, you'd jump down from the little platform. That would've saved me so much time and health points.
Overall while it's not that different from the original it's still very good.
P.S. I found a glitch where if you jump at a certain point right before the second boss, it causes it not to spawn, I think you might have already known because of the door you can go into.
The controls for this are mildly stiff to say the least, jumping from platform to platform requires extreme precision, otherwise you're gonna miss it. The hit detection is pretty janky at times, especially when it comes to when you swear you hit something but didn't. The enemies are, for the most part the most challenging part of the game. I mean, they're supposed to be right? Well, there's one enemy that I have a HUGE gripe with: Those skulls that shoot fireballs. I swear, like half of the deaths I've had in this game can be attributed to those things alone. If you could just destroy the fireballs with your attacks, this game wouldn't be so frustrating. I get that it's supposed to be extremely hard, but when it's hard because of bullshit game mechanics and enemy placement, then it's just straight up bad. There are some rooms where these fireballs make the game genuinely impossible because you avoiding them is not based on skill, but rather it's based on the chance that the skull enemies aren't shooting them in your direction. "Underground Thorns" is a good example of how NOT to make "challenging" games.
This game could definitely use some reworking, because I feel like this could be a decent game otherwise.
It doesn't give me the 1,000 points medal when I reach that amount, I doubt the 3,000 one would work either.
Game's broken.
Street Fighter 2 on Atari 2600
Would've loved to have seen a Capcom-made Spider-Man platformer on the NES.
Rest in peace Elwood Edwards.
